  • An AFEX fire suppression system is a pre-engineered fire protection system designed primarily
    for heavy equipment and special hazard applications. Systems are manufactured by AFEX Fire
    Suppression Systems and are designed to detect and suppress fires quickly before they spread.

  • The system uses linear detection wire or sensors to identify heat or flame. When a fire is
    detected, the system automatically releases a suppression agent through strategically placed
    nozzles to extinguish the fire.

    Forcing the system to cycle during machine maintenance is recommended. There are many
    troubleshooting steps to consider based on the type of system.

    intervals or based on machine cycles.

  • Routine inspection is recommended monthly or per manufacturer guidelines. Reservoir refilling
    depends on usage & environmental conditions.

  • Some systems detect pressure increases and trigger alarms. In a case where cycle indicators are not
    installed, the lubricant may be relieved to atmosphere which should be spotted on a circle check. Series
    Progressive systems can stop cycling if one outlet is blocked & when properly installed will alarm the
    operator to shut down. Single or dual line systems cannot alert the operator that a line is blocked.

    lubrication.

  • Most systems use grease (NLGI 000 to 2, depending on the design) or oil (various viscosities depending
    on application).

  • Some systems attempt to lubricate even after the pump is empty forcing air in the lines. Single & Dual
    line systems may not be able to force the air out of the mainline which results in alarm condition. Series
    progressive will force out the air out & is typically less troublesome when air is in the lines.

  • If the pump is made for it, yes. Outdoor applications will see temperature changes throughout the year. It
    is recommended to make your changes at the start of the season and maintain the same lubricant until
    the next season. Change when the reservoir is empty.

  • Mixing of lubricants and/or water intrusion.

  • Often the pins, bushings or weldments need to be modified to accept a feed line. We suggest no welding
    or drilling in high stress areas. Rather the pin or bushing be modified to accept the line in a better
    location. This increases the price of an installation, yet it is properly installed to reduce line damage
    ultimately saving the pin joint.
